I am a PhD student in Rhetoric and Composition at Purdue University, where I also teach professional writing. I'm currently working on my dissertation, which deals with narrative and trauma. Other research interests include: feminist theory, new media, digital writing, and technical writing.
For folks with celiac disease finding places to be a lady who lunches is never easy. Happily, I've found a place here that, while they don't have a gluten-free menu yet, the staff is helpful and considerate. I originally happened on McAllister's Deli because they serve sweet tea--my southern girl obsession. It only occurred to me recently to check for gluten-free products, mostly because the majority of their menu is sandwiches. Yesterday I noticed that they also have baked potatoes--very much in the tradition of British jacket potatoes, these potatoes come loaded. I got the beef and cheddar spud which is packed full of sliced roast beef and cheddar cheese. Skip the gravy; it has wheat, but the roast beef doesn't have anything added to it that would be of concern.
I just received my teaching assignment for next fall and I'm totally psyched about it. I'll be teaching Multimedia Writing! I'll also be teaching another section of English 420, but I'm way more excited about teaching in my primary area of interest. One of the reasons that I enjoy teaching business writing is that it gives me the opportunity to incorporate multimedia writing into my curriculum. Obviously, I'll still be doing that but it will be nice to teach a class where that's the primary focus.
In my Postmodern Rhetoric class, we had a fairly lengthy discussion of Marshall Alcorn's Changing the Subject in English Class: Discourse and the Construction of Desire. Unfortunately, the topic that I was most interested in discussing didn't emerge until the end of class (and I had a bit of difficulty being heard). My classmates were discussing the difficulties that arise when students make racist comments (or comments that you otherwise feel is inappropriate), either in class or within their writing. The question of assessment, as always, demanded much of our attention.

I fully intend to maintain the dominant paradigm. So, can I park here?
I picked up the recently released Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight "The Long Way Home, Part I" comic book yesterday. (Actually, I picked up two copies: one of each cover) What can I say? Joss and his team haven't lost their magic. Of course, I was sadly surprised by the length. Not having been much of a comic book fan before this, I had no idea that they are so short! My boyfriend broke that sad news to me. But, luckily, the next issue comes out on April 4th, so I don't have too long to wait. I highly recommend reading this issue and those to come. There are some definite laugh out loud moments that are just too good to miss.

When I received this week's Time magazine, I thought that the photo of Reagan looked a bit off, but since I find republicans generally uninteresting, I didn't look closer. Anyway, I just saw this blog entry pointing out the interesting credits for the photo. The first credit acknowledges the photographer who took Reagan's photo and the second acknowledges the creator of the tear on his cheek!
It's true; I love my mac! Apple is by far the superior computer system and the other day, during one of my Mac app quests, I stumbled on these hilarious spoofs of the "I'm a Mac" ads. The first one is definitely pro-Mac and the other.., well, even though it's sort of anti-Mac, it's still pretty funny.
It's all true:
And this one, is just sort of funny.
